Top 10 Remixes by Remix Service
Hi all,
I'm an eighties music enthusiast with an interest in a wide range of styles but with an affinity for new wave and synthpop. I have a modest music collection comprised mostly of officially released mixes/remixes and never really got into collecting remixes by DJ Remix Services. I'd like to hear everyone's top ten to use as a sort of jumping-off point to explore further.
Thanks.

Re: Top 10 Remixes by Remix Service
Tough one to answer, but if I had to pick out some of my favorites remixes of tracks, a good deal of them would probably come from the early days of DMC.
With literally thousands upon thousands of them it's really hard to pick out a starting point on what actually could be considered .. good .. better .. ect .. ect.
With out getting to specific ..... it has seemed to me that each different remix service had something really really really good to offer at some point in time. So a lot of times it's not really a whole series that is good, but more like individual songs done by certain remixers, or a style of remixing.
If I had to pick a quick example for what I just mentioned above .. it would be Disconet, most of there remixes in my opinion were not that great. In many cases they were down right terrible. But every once in a while they would hit a home run with an awesome remake of something.
IMHO ... a good part of trying to figure out what remixes & remixservice companies might be better .. has a lot to do with intimately knowing what the original song sounded like.
I'm Curious what others might be thinking on this too .... funny ... for all the thousands & thousands of remixes this forum has offered over the years .... we never had a topic like this one before.

Wow Analague, that really is a killer question.
I would half agree with Greg that if I was going to try and find my favourite mixes, I would go back to the early days of DMC and Mastermix. Don't get me wrong, what they do now is good, but some of the things they did back in the day were so much better. I think that sometimes it also depends on your mood. Much as I really like DMC and Mastermix, I have a few copies of a bootleg series that came out in the late 80s, early 90s, Called Promo 1 - 9 and a couple of these I would say were far better than some of the stuff coming out of the major remix services.
Then of course, you had the likes of Shep Pettibone doing some amazing mainstream remixes for Madonna, Level 42 and dare I say it, Five Star!
So much to choose from.
Excellent question that needs more thought!

Mood ... Key point, lots of times I want to listen to something, but can't make up my mind on exactly just what to listen too.
That's when the mega mixes come in handy, (for me at least) that in turn brings up a whole different side of the remix service offerings.

Of the ones I've heard so far, I definitely appreciate the added production value that DMC bring to their remixes but I figure that it depends greatly on the specific remixer for the track.

I won't name tracks, but Mixx-it was a great series, as was wicked mix. DMC and mastermix as mentioned, and select mix is pretty good too.
