Ongoing computer/internet saga continues....
Just lost my notebook 3 days ago, all my photo's, work etc gone. This is just for the people who ask me for some help etc: can't do it at the moment, sorry.
Main priority is to retrieve the data somehow, must be the f*cking heat! first a HDD now a notebook!

Well this is not good news hope you can make it mate.
Nevertheless try to force yourself to make a backup on e.g. an external drive once a week!
Wish you all the best that you are soon back to action.
Crossing my fingers and pressing my thumbs for you.

Heat will kill a note book faster than it will kill a pc. It happens a lot more often than you think.
Ermm! if you don't know what you are doing trying to fix it, maybe ask someone with more knowledge than yourself for some help before you possibly start deleting stuff . I'm assuming it is fairly new and there exists the possibility that with a newer operating system that shadow copies are on there but you cant see them including the original files you can't see.
Depending on the "physical shape and specifications of the hard drive / connections ect. " you can sometimes put your hard drive in a computer / lap-top ... that's working properly ..... that can take "two drives" ... and use the good working computer to read what is on the hard drive of the non-working computer.
Try comparing the size of the drive to to how much "free space" you have, it might give you some clues as to what could be on there that you can't see for some reason.
If you had a lot of stuff on there, ....... to some extent ....... it's kind of hard to delete it all with out some sort of warning, and even if you worked at it to delete it ..... there is a good chance a lot of it is still there you just can't read it.

Re: Ongoing computer/internet saga continues....
It's been constantly around 40 degrees Celsius here, which is extreme.
The error I got is: 0xc00000e9
+ I/O failure.
I tried google but there is no issue with connected usb drives etc, it literately stopped working.
I can't pass the screen with that information, I do not have an additional notebook with spare space, asked around here today and no one (so far) can help me with it.
Thanks for your answer though, I keep on trying.

You can also try buying an external drive shell. (An empty external drive holder)
I was told the new drive shell writes new header info on the drive.
I've done this before and retrieved a drive that way.
good luck!
