remixservices.com gone now?
Is this site gone now? Seems like this database is now gone, haven't been able to get here for about a week or so. Going to be a shame if it is gone, one of the better places to check on versions of different songs and remix-service labels.

Maybe we need to create our own archive?

Re: remixservices.com gone now?
Yes, how can we create our own archive? Where to find info on all remix services and track listings?
I went to google cache and there were still pages left but many gone including hot tracks, most pages are not in original lay out anymore.
I copied all pages with the issues listed but not with tracks on every issue, too much work. It is not a masterpiece but shows 90% of what was listed on remix services.com.
For anyone interested you can find the link to the archive here:
If someone can make it look better, new layout, additional services, updates etc. YES PLEASE!

Re: remixservices.com gone now?
Start a new forum / data base with information like discogs with absolutely no down load links just for remix service label stuff.
Wonder how much stuff could be found, and pm trades that could be made similar to what we are already doing, just because it gets listed without links does not mean there are some links posted somewhere
Not sure what would be the best layout, but if someone posts something with accurate information ......... you would have to maybe guess they have it. Especially if they post images of it that have never been seen before. A lot of the information could also be harvested from other sites that are still out there to get started.
Remix service was a nice resource but was pretty plain jane, discogs is good but lots of rules about posting. to be successful you would need a balance between ease of use to submit information and good looks to attract a lot of different submitter's.

Re: remixservices.com gone now?
I could build a site like we had for the old site....but make it informational only, no user posts.....just raw data that a few admins update and take in data from users information with validated info.
A LOT of it can be scripted using MP3TAG to build the lists.....

Re: remixservices.com gone now?
I think you would have to have it as an (semi) invite only type of place with members that you could trust to just supply information to get it started so the place would have some sort of (body for lack of a better term) and provide examples of how the things are supposed to be presented. Then maybe a means of submitting information by the general public that gets "reviewed" / "voted on" for accuracy and proper presentation, then maybe followed by after a few good submissions the ability to post with out review. I have to believe that remixservices.com had several people posting way to much for "just" one single person. Not that I have a clear vision of what this site would look like, but I kinda think you would have to make it as a place to showcase / get bragging rights as you show off your collection.
It would be a lot of work to set up, but maybe worth it to do. Not really sure how it would all work out, but I know for myself that I'm a little over-whelmed by some of the series of remixes labels that I am not familiar with or have lost touch with . Some good examples, the newer select mix stuff, just about all the X-Mix stuff ect ect ect not to mention all the different DMC and Master Mix stuff that they keep putting out. So.o.o.o.o.o.o.o. many different series with in series of remixes. We did a great job at the old forum but this would be taking it too the next level.

Re: remixservices.com gone now?
Well let's look at putting together a group and have a directors meeting to recruit who should be added and figure out what format we want it to look like.
Clearly it needs a search engine (easy)
Needs a FIXED format (consensus)
Needed fields to represent (Artist, Song, Album, BPM (original not calculated), "other tags?") (Needs to be known day one)
Maybe next level > Album art? (Not so easy)
I own select mix and have almost all of the series.....I think getting the bulk going is easy, it will be the rarer stuff that makes it harder. Also the update interval may become demanding as time passes, but could easily be delegated if need be.
My one caveat is that I EXPECT is that everyone is given a full copy of the site data, files, and database (if they so choose to have it) as this will be no one persons "site" to own. It would be unfair to have a select group build this and then have one person decide to get a hair across their ass and take the data and run (not saying it will)......so the only way I will work on a project of this scope is to verify that everyone gets a proper backup snapshot copy as time progresses etc.
If we agree on this.....I'm in.

Sound like a great Project Spin A 12 Inch & Kittmaster.
Have you thought about contacting the IPC the host of the domain owner.
There are nothing illegal from that site, maybe we can buy the site back. ( Just an idea )

All very good points Kitt.
Just wanna say I'm only in it to help out maybe get it off the ground, my days of collecting are pretty much over but I'd like to see this as maybe an opportunity to maybe get a lot of people from maybe lost of different sites to collectively put together the most comprehensive remix-service data base. more often than not these days I don't have time to save stuff, and spend much more time researching than collecting.
I can't sum up all my thoughts in a few words, but I wonder over the years just how many hits remixservices.com has gotten over the years from just people on this forum. Then imagine the amount of people outside of our little small world that have visited that site to look up information. I have to believe someone else is going to try and maybe do this as well, but in all honesty. I haven't got a clue how to set it up, so much to think about.

Re: remixservices.com gone now?
It's not the same.
discogs and remixservices work well together,
both are not complete but mostly a mixture of
information of both delivered a complete picture.

Sunny has it right
Often when looking up something you needed to use both neither one of them had/has complete information.

Correct, but by the 4th post in this thread the convo turned to creating a new platform. The platform already exists... discogs. And hell... you can actually buy the stuff also

I use more than just discogs and remixservices, i google what i'm looking for and search of ebay sales of the vinyl, record sites, pic searches for the vinyl covers. There are many tools to use when organizing a series. Remixservices was good, but not great.

Re: remixservices.com gone now?
I think you make a valid point here: ''i google what i'm looking for ''
This is exactly the point IMHO, if you don't know how many issues there were for a series or how many issues there were for a rare remix service or even didn't know a remix service existed you can google but you won't get any results. So, I think making our own ''remix services'' to list all we know would be a great starting point.
my 2 cents.

Perfect! Many thanks for your intervention DJ Retro.
I already started to copy many left overviews (copies were partially available)
to my harddrive to support our own database, but this way it is much better!
